Microblading or Powder Brows? A Permanent Brow Guide

Microblading or Powder Brows? A Permanent Brow Guide

Technique differences, process, healing and colour change; who should not have it?

Brow shape is one of the most important elements defining facial expression. The first question of everyone thinking about permanent brows is "microblading or powder?" The answer depends on your skin type, brow structure and the result you expect.

What is microblading?

Hair-like strokes are drawn one by one into the skin with a hand tool and a fine blade tip. It gives a natural, hairy look and is ideal for sparse or gappy brows. Pigment holds better in dry and normal skin. In oily skin the strokes can soften and blur over time. It lasts 12-18 months.

What are powder brows?

Pigment is deposited dot by dot with a machine and a fine needle, creating a soft fill that looks shaded with makeup. It suits oily and porous skin, those used to drawing their brows and those who want a more defined brow. It lasts 18-30 months.

Combination (hybrid) technique

The brow head is done with microblading for a natural hair effect, while the body and tail are filled with powder for fullness. This is the most balanced result for most of our guests.

How does the process work?

  1. Consultation and health form: allergy, pregnancy, diabetes and skin diseases are asked about.
  2. Test drawing: brow shape, symmetry and colour are approved together in front of a mirror.
  3. Treatment (90-120 min): done with topical anaesthetic; discomfort is low.
  4. Healing: scabbing occurs in the first week; do not pick the scabs.
  5. Touch-up (after 4-6 weeks): missed areas are completed and the colour settles.

What to watch during healing

  • Do not wet the brows for the first 7 days; cover your face in the shower.
  • Avoid sauna, pool, sea and direct sun for two weeks.
  • Apply the recommended ointment in a thin layer; too much ointment pulls out pigment.
  • Do not apply peels, retinol or chemical products around the brows.

Why does colour change?

In the first days brows look 30-40% darker than the final colour; they lighten in two to three weeks. Skin undertone and pigment type can cause the colour to shift over time toward red, grey or blue; that is why we choose a pigment blend matched to your undertone.

Who should not have it?

The treatment is not done, or physician approval is required, in pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infection, uncontrolled diabetes, blood-thinner use and a tendency to keloid formation.

Care and renewal plan

Permanent brows fade over time with sun and skincare products. Using daily SPF, keeping peeling products away from the brow area and having a refresh session every 12-18 months preserves the colour. A refresh session is shorter and more economical than the first treatment.
